Yeah, a Fat Bike! The things I HATE the most in life....
So why you ask? Well...let me indulge you with a LONG story! Not sure why I hated fat bikes. I think about it and have no clue? Maybe the riders? Maybe...I don't know, but regardless...I hated them!
Then, about a month ago, I came across a company that makes MTB and FS Fat Bikes...and thought "damn, that's a cool bike!". It really was sick looking! So I reached out and chatted with the owner...until I found out what kind of 'deal' I was getting...and at $7000 for a frame/motor only, well, I was out! I can get complete carbon Mondrakers for a bout the same and frame/motors for quite a bit less!
So off I went on a hunt for a frame/motor combo...I checked the China sourced stuff, googled and googled for days...
Then I came across these guys, Surface 604. And I looked them over...super inexpensive, which is good, and bad?! I did some reading, watched some video and then emailed them, satisfied they were a decent quality to fit in with The Death Projects.
We talked a bit by email and I accepted them...they accepted me, so the first Boar Explorer is on the way to do some messing with and, of course, tinkering with. Sadly it's a complete bike, but I have some stuff already in the works: Manitou fork, Terrene rubber, upgraded drivetrain and brakes, carbon wheels and tons more!
See the radical build info here: BUILD INFO
So stay tuned, this is so far, epic!
Unfortunately they don't come frame motor only...but there is room for improvement and the price point is spot on!
27.5, thankfully, and studded! These will be the winter tire setup on Sunringle Mulfut rims.
110mm and super plush! And the stealth graphics included are sweet!
I hate cables! So AXS it is! Super quick and awesome quality!
Comfy, sticky, what more do you need! Super grips that I use on everything.
Super lightweight! Need to drop a few grams on this beast!
Not only are these affordable, but they are some of the best I've used over the years.
Sadly HelixR won't fit the Shimano driver, so we brought in the next best thing! Garbaruk components!
The best of the best!
Added a wolftooth CAMO ring, in a 38t instead of a 36t for better 'road riding'. Keep you posted on this.
Lightweight and super cool! Replacing the Surface604 cranks was high on my list!
Upgraded the stock brakes with 2.3mm rotors from TRP and 4 piston Auriga+ brakes from Tektro. Super powerful and modulation is awesome!
What else should an ebike have then wireless shifting! And what better than SRAM AXS! Super fast and so much less clutter!
Thicker and lighter than the factory stuff.
This one came out of no where! But is a great touring bar for a touring bike!
Wild Dragon 95mm carbon, super light and super strong!
Only the best! Using the motor on the rear obviously, and Onyx on the front wheel!
