3 years ago? 2017 sometime anyway...I bought a bell. SpurCycle to be exact. And 2 mos later, I was buying my first "real" bike, a Cannondale Quick. "Quickly" after that, I spend A LOT on making it unique. But I wanted more...
So along came what started as the "Gravel Death Project" and that had turned into multiple projects. "Mountain Death Project" was added and chronicled here on the site and then "Enduro Death Project" "XC", "Apocalypse", "Gambler", "Carbon", and now "Calver Death project"
Since mountain biking has taken the forefront of the projects, I switched the site name to reflect. MountainDeathProject.com And recently to "TheDeathProjects.com", a more fitting title for ALL of the projects.
Gravel Death Project was built for me, to my exacting specs. The COTIC Solaris Max, Mountain Death Project (RIP) was my first build. And was fantastic! It quickly led to Enduro Death Project (RIP), my first FS bike which I never really got to enjoy as the trails around here were always closed. So off it went.
As of January 1, 2020, I started the 4th project; "XC Death Project". This is a build based more on budget/quality vs just high end 'only the best'. It used an inexpensive but highly rated Nukeproof Scout275 frame and came out great for its purpose. It got my fiance' into Mountain biking in a more practical way with a more user-friendly bike layout.
Gravel Death Project was put down for Tarmac Death Project. That was short-lived as I'm not a drop-bar guy and is back now and getting better than ever in a revised, flat bar, true GRAVEL update.
Then, in the times of COVID came more changes. Wanting to update the Gravel Death Project frame led to a whole new build, Apocalypse Death Project. A BEAST of a touring/expedition bike to end all!
Sitting around bored one day, I decided to build yet another beast! Gambler Death Project. A study in hardcore hardtails. Radical. Badass! Mullet! So as of April 25, 2020, the Gambler was born
But it does not stop there! No! On a whim, I decide to replace Enduro Death Project (RIP) with...Carbon Death Project! A wicked Guerrilla Gravity Gnarvana. And it's extreme and high tech! From the 180mm of travel to the crazy cool Beast carbon bars and wireless shifting.
Then, on a whim, Mountain Death Project is gone. Sold to a very lucky individual. To be replaced by none other than COTIC BFe Max...Chaotic Death Project!
Then, just because I can, I ordered 2 more frames from COTIC...Another Solaris Max: Mountain Death Project II and a COTIC Escapade for Christine: Towpath Death Project! This is the first NON-Mountain frame I'll be using from them and it'll be pretty epic!
The most shocking thing then transpired: Carbon Death Project (GG Gnarvana) AND Gambler Death Project (FERRUM NVHT) both sold, just like that. To be replaced by THE most epic build yet? Most likely: Antidote Bikes CarbonJack29, full 3k carbon beast!
But as always the story only continues Phantom Death Project, a Mondraker Podium! Yeah. That Podium! THE lightest XC bike in the world! Entering the Death Projects realm. And they are as excited about the build as I am. Light. Fast. Capable. Unique as Fuck! Coming soon!
On a whim, one-day mid-Oct 2020, and in about 2 hours, I threw together Northwoods Death Project, an OTSO Cycles-based flat bar grave bike to maybe replace Gravel Death Project? It came out epic and is a super lightweight carbon gravel bike!
Then in late October 2020, on a whim, I made a "next year project" a NOW project and put together my recently acquired Antidote CarbonJack29...3k Death Project! I was going to take Mountain Death Project to Pisgah NC with us, but decided to take this beast because...why not!? And it came out sweet! Super high end and just wicked in every way!
PHEW! Lost yet? I am sometimes. So enjoy the site. It's constantly changing and evolving and things get added almost daily! It's fun. Try and keep up, if you can!
