The first bike I had built, Grave Death Project, was a very cool experience. It was my first opportunity to get into the nitty-gritty of building, or rather in this case, designing a bike of 'my dreams'.
I remember filling out that infamous excel spreadsheet with everything that "I" wanted on a bike! High ends parts, later trimmed back a bit as I was on pace to build a $5000 SOMA Wolverine! But damn it was fun!
One of the stickler things was wheels. I wanted "the best". I researched and mulled over them for weeks: Had to be the right 'look' and quality. See, I'm an Apple guy. Not only does the stuff just WORK, it looks amazing, down to the boxes the stuff shows up in! LOVE it!
So to me the looks of a bike: the trim colors, the wheels, how it all works together and flows or contrasts or blends...super important.
The LOOK of that bike was ALL BLACK. And it worked great...
Anyway, the wheels were a big deal. I decided on HED Belgium+ because they were great rims and super cool looking! Painted on graphics, subtle yet classy. Bulletproof. The hubs as well: White Industries rear XMR and the dynamo was only Schmidt! The best.
I had the wheels build locally and they were and have been great. But now it's time to expand. To put some lightweight wheels on that bike and all the others.
What wheels? MY wheels! Sure, I use other stuff, but I spend hours and hours mulling over the "right rims" to use. The right look. The graphics. The colors.
And that has led to here! My own The Death Projects Branded wheels! Just wait...they will be epic and ever-changing! I am currently NOT building wheels, but supplying all the necessary parts so you can or have them done for you...for now! Stay tuned, but read about them, and order them, below...
Here you'll find my XC and All-Moutain/Enduro rims. Symmetrical and Asymmetrical available in several widths. Reach out for info until things get up and running.
For XC racers, and newly developed, two innovative ultralight MTB rims, especially for XC Mountain Bike racing. I redesigned the profile of 27mm width rim and 30mm, drawing internal width and rim depth in the same size, which is proved to be the best engineering profile, not only keep these XC rims stiff but to make them as light as possible.
T1000 carbon fibers are used in these two new types of rims, the materials proved to offer fantastic performance through all the research. I am proud of these two newly designed Ultralight rims, and racing level rims for XC cycling.
To keep improving on the All-Mountain and Enduro level, I designed two types of All-Mountain/Enduro level carbon rims. Internal width is specially designed to 30mm and 35mm, for better tire fitment with wider rubber.
To make the rims higher strength, T800 carbon fiber is added, and we used a premium layering system to produce these rims, it's more complicated and time consuming, but worth it.
From road bikes to trail bikes, the XMR is a solid choice for 6-bolt set ups. Made in our shop from U.S. sourced 6061-T6 aluminum, they’re available in a range of drillings, colors, and axle configurations.
Onyx hubs transfer the precise amount of torque you want to the ground when you need it. Nasty climbs on boulders and rock require just the right amount of instantaneous power but only at your command. There is no substitute for absolute control of your machine.
The all-aluminum TRS hubs are lighter than our previous carbon-shelled Race hubs, and even more durable. We kept the same freehub internals and 6 degree engagement for great feedback and performance, but wrapped it in a lightweight, all-aluminum package that'll go for many years to come without hassle.
